A Meta Pixel is a piece of tracking code that connects your website to Meta. It allows you to see when people visit your website, create advertising audiences, and measure the results of Facebook and Instagram ads.
Before you begin, you will need:
A Facebook account
Access to your organisation’s Meta Business Portfolio
A website you are authorised to track
Access to your website platform or someone who can add the Pixel for you
Step 1: Open Meta Events Manager
Log in to Facebook
Open Meta Events Manager
Make sure the correct business is selected at the top of the page
Step 2: Connect a new data source
Select Connect data
Choose Web as the data source
Click Connect
Meta may refer to your tracking source as a dataset, a pixel, or dataset and pixel, depending on the section of the platform you are using.
Step 3: Name your pixel
Enter a clear name for your Pixel
For example:
Your Business Name – Website Pixel
Click Create or Continue
Choose a name that makes it easy to identify which business and website the Pixel belongs to.
Step 4: Enter your ClassForKids Schedule Page URL
Enter your bespoke URL e.g. dancingdivas.classforkids.io
Click Check or Continue
Step 5: How to install the Pixel
Select Install code manually
Copy the Meta Pixel base code
Add the code to ‘Tracking Pixels’ on the settings page on your ClassForKids system
Save and publish the changes
Step 6: Find and copy your Pixel ID
Once the Pixel has been created:
Open Events Manager
Select Data sources or Datasets
Select the Pixel you created
Open Settings
Find the Dataset ID or Pixel ID
The ID is usually a long number, for example:
123456789012345
Copy only the number. Do not include spaces, quotation marks or additional code.
Step 7: Add your Pixel ID to your ClassForKids settings
Go to your settings and find 'Tracking pixels'. Insert pixel ID and click 'update'.
Step 8: Test the Pixel
After installing it:
Return to Meta Events Manager
Select your Pixel or dataset
Open the Test events section
Enter your website address
Click ClassForKids schedule page
Visit a few pages
Return to Events Manager and check whether a PageView event appears
It can sometimes take a few minutes for activity to appear.
Step 9: Check that data is being received
In Events Manager, look for:
An active status
Recent website activity
PageView events
The date and time of the latest event
If no activity appears, check that:
The correct Pixel ID was added
The website changes were published
Your cookie banner is not preventing the Pixel from loading before consent
Browser privacy settings or ad-blocking software are not blocking the test
You are testing the correct website address
Step 10: Review your cookie consent
A Meta Pixel uses website visitor data, so your website should have appropriate privacy and cookie controls.
Make sure:
Your privacy policy explains how Meta tracking is used
Your cookie banner includes advertising or marketing cookies
The Pixel only activates in accordance with the visitor’s consent and applicable privacy requirements
Once the Pixel is active, you can use the data in Meta Events Manager and Meta Ads Manager to understand website traffic, build audiences and assess advertising performance.
